Answer socialism's propaganda by stating "Socialism is Slavery!"

The propaganda in favor of socialism is a line so fashionable these days that it causes youth to tell pollsters they're in favor of socialism. So, what is the best way to cut through that propaganda? The answer is simply to reply, loud and clear: “Socialism is Slavery!” I don’t hear this often enough, even though many thinking people have made the point. The economist Thomas Sowell made the comparison many years ago, noting that slaves are always kept in a state of dependence, just as the welfare keeps people in a state of dependence:

The comparison between socialism and slavery doesn’t end with the economic similarities. Socialism involves censorship, just like slavery.  You can’t disagree with the narrative or you’ll be punished. Just like slavery.  Socialism also views the family as an impediment to progress, and so promotes policies that tear families apart.  Just like slavery, with its history of separating families and tearing mothers from their children at the auction block.  If you consider how it was illegal to teach slaves how to read, we can see a parallel in that cultivation of ignorance.    Ignorance of history and so much else has been a blight on both K12 and higher education for decades. The list goes on.

Eight years ago, the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation put together a short video that also makes the point:

Here are a couple of excerpts from my recent piece in the Federalist on the connection between socialism and slavery:

Socialist regimes always insist on controlling speech, confiscating property, undermining self-defense, disrespecting the rule of law, and invading private life — all via centralized and unchecked power.

Equating socialism with slavery is far more effective than trying to engage in pointless debates with communists. Because even schoolchildren know what slavery is. But few Americans understand the theoretical gibberish behind the terms communism, socialism, Marxism, etc.

By the way, the terms socialism and communism these days are truly interchangeable, especially with the apparent takeover of the Democrat Party by Democratic Socialists of America whose platform is communist through and through.
