My five main points are:
Imposed isolation is the primary means of social control.
There is a "machinery of loneliness" that causes isolation to result in social control.
The most dangerous output of that machinery is social conformity and self-censorship.
If we do nothing to push back against the conformity impulse, we invite even more isolation and the further erosion of our freedom.
The good news is that we have the power to resist conformity and to renew civil society.
